Purpose of the Study: To add to the limited body of research on the topic of dental implant treatment for patients with dentinogenesis imperfecta and evaluate long-term clinical outcomes of patients treated with this modality.
Methods: This case series, performed in a single private dental clinic setting, follows four patients diagnosed with dentinogenesis imperfecta who were treated for teeth lost as a result of this condition with dental implant-supported fixed prosthodontics. The four patients followed were made up of two parent-child dyads. The patients were followed for a period ranging from 6 months to 20 years. The cases were evaluated for complications, if any, including bone loss and peri-implantitis.
Results: Overall, clinical outcomes of the patients followed were good.
Conclusion: The results of this case series indicate that dental implants are a feasible clinical treatment options for restoring patients who have lost teeth secondary to dentinogenesis imperfecta for long-term restoration of function and esthetics. Further studies on the topic, particularly larger, multi-center studies with an experimental design, are encouraged.
